Ministry of Home Affairs
गृह मन्त्रालय
The Ministry of Home Affairs is the Government of Nepal body primarily responsible for internal security, public administration, and citizen-facing identity/civil registration services. It oversees Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force, and the country's district and area administration offices.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (Nepali: गृह मन्त्रालय) traces its origins to 1951, shortly after Nepal’s 1951 political changes. Its mandate has evolved over subsequent decades — including periods when local administration duties sat with the ministry before the creation of a separate Ministry of Local Development — and today centers on internal security, public order, and the district/area administration system established under Nepal’s 2015 constitution’s 77 districts.

Source & verification
Verified directly against the Ministry's own official website (contact details, subordinate office/department list) on the date above. The minister and secretary fields are more volatile than the rest of this record — Nepal's cabinet and civil service saw multiple home-minister and home-secretary changes in 2025–2026 — so re-check data/people/sudan-gurung.md and data/people/kedarnath-sharma.md specifically before relying on them, even if the rest of this record is still current. This is the first real (non-sample) organization added to the project, in Phase 14; the `sample-ministry-of-home-affairs` entry remains for now as a schema demonstration and will be retired once enough real ministries exist to make it redundant.
